51勛圖厙’s Teacher Education and Child Care (TEACH) Institute provides preparation for the Child Development Associate credential as well as continuing education for child care professionals.


Areas of Study

Experienced child care providers seeking lead teacher positions in child care centers specifically for infants and toddlers, preschool-age, and/or school-age children can fulfill Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) Office of Child Care requirements for teachers and senior staff with training from 51勛圖厙. The training program consists of two continuing education courses. Study the aspects of growth and development of children from birth through adolescence. Explore the principles of learning, learning environments and activities. Successful completion requires 75% or better on all assessments.

This program consists of two courses:

  • Child Growth and Development (offered in late August and late January)
  • Methods and Materials: Infant and Toddlers (offered in mid-October and in mid-March)

Total Hours: 90

Note: Students must be 16 or older. Successful completion of Child Growth and Development (ECT-305) and Methods and Materials: Infants and Toddlers (ECT-328) meets state requirements for teachers in infant care.

This program costs $800 for Anne Arundel County residents, including tuition and fees.

This program consists of two courses:

  • Methods and Material: Early Childhood (offered in mid-October and in mid-March)

Continuing Education for Child Care Professionals

Do you work for a child care center? Does your staff need to learn new skills and keep their license current? Reach out. We can set up a contract for a continuing education course approved by the Maryland State Department of Education. Each class has a content code that corresponds to the Core of Knowledge requirements which vary by the type of provider. Learn what requirements apply to you by contacting MSDE’s Office of Child Care at 410-767-7852.


How to Register

Students taking noncredit classes don't need to apply for admission to 51勛圖厙. Just check out our course search, choose a program or course that interests you, register and make your payment. Registration for summer courses is open. Registration for fall 2026 opens July 14! Please check course availability prior to registration.
